The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is moving swiftly to upgrade the Hyderabad–Vijayawada National Highway (NH-65) into a six-lane roadway. With over 50,000 vehicles commuting daily, traffic congestion and rising accidents have prompted the decision to expand.

📊 DPR Finalization by May-End

A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 265-kilometer project is targeted for completion by the end of May. The total cost is estimated at ₹5,300 crores, with an average of ₹20 crores per kilometer.

🧱 Technical Study Assigned to Bhopal Firm

A specialized firm from Bhopal has been entrusted with preparing the DPR. NHAI is conducting continuous reviews with the firm to address technical aspects. Since land acquisition is already complete, the current focus is on detailed technical evaluation.

📍 265 KM Stretch Under Expansion

The highway expansion spans from Dandu Malkapur (Telangana) to Gollapudi (Andhra Pradesh). The upgraded six-lane route is expected to significantly enhance travel speed and safety along this busy corridor.

🚧 Bridges and Underpasses for Safer Commuting

The project includes:

• A vehicle underpass at Ramapuram Cross, a known accident-prone zone
• A new bridge beside the existing one over Paleru Vagu
• Several road overbridges and vehicle underpasses at critical points

These enhancements aim to streamline heavy truck traffic and reduce delays.

🏗️ Ramapuram Junction Gets Special Focus

The open junction at Ramapuram is deemed hazardous, especially due to the high density of cement factories nearby. An underpass here is considered critical for managing heavy vehicle movement.

🌉 New Bridge on Paleru Vagu

Although repairs were recently carried out on the Paleru Vagu bridge, a new parallel structure is being proposed to handle future traffic loads and avoid disruptions.

🔜 Permissions Targeted for June

With the DPR expected by May-end, NHAI aims to secure all required construction approvals by the first week of June. Multiple processes will be undertaken in parallel to fast-track the project launch.
