Breathed His Last in Bengaluru
Dr. Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who rendered decades of service to India’s space programme, passed away at the age of 84 on Friday morning at his residence in Bengaluru.
Remarkable Leadership at ISRO
He served as the Chairman of ISRO from 1994 to 2003.
During his tenure, India witnessed major advancements including the development of launch vehicles like PSLV and GSLV, and the successful deployment of INSAT and IRS satellite systems, marking significant milestones in the country’s space journey.
Contributions to Education
🔹 Served as the Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)
🔹 Held the post of Chairman, Karnataka Knowledge Commission
🔹 Chaired the committee that drafted the National Education Policy (NEP)
Parliamentary Service
Dr. Kasturirangan was a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009.
During this period, he submitted several recommendations and policies focused on the advancement of education and science in India.
Dedication to Research
Between 2004 and 2009, he served as Director of the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru.
From this platform, he encouraged key research efforts in India’s scientific and technological domains.
