New Delhi: Jio Platforms Limited has announced a strategic partnership with SpaceX, paving the way for Starlink broadband services in India.

This collaboration will utilize SpaceX’s network of low-Earth orbit satellites to provide high-speed internet connectivity, even in remote and rural areas.

Once regulatory approvals are secured, Starlink equipment will be available for purchase at Reliance Jio stores, along with installation and activation services.

Expanding Internet Access Across India

According to Jio Platforms, Starlink will complement its existing broadband services, such as JioFiber and JioAirFiber, by expanding internet accessibility in difficult-to-reach locations.

The initiative aligns with Jio’s goal of delivering high-speed internet not only to large enterprises but also to small and medium-sized businesses, as well as local communities across the country.

Once SpaceX obtains the necessary approvals from Indian regulatory authorities, customers will be able to buy Starlink equipment from Jio stores.

Additionally, Jio will provide installation and activation services on behalf of SpaceX.

Statements from SpaceX and Future Plans

Following the partnership announcement, Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer of SpaceX, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.

“We are excited to work with Jio and await authorization from the Indian government to bring Starlink’s high-speed internet services to more individuals, businesses, and organizations,” she stated.

Beyond broadband services, both companies plan to explore additional areas of cooperation, leveraging their respective infrastructure.

SpaceX’s Starlink currently operates nearly 7,000 active satellites, offering low-latency broadband connectivity to some of the most remote regions worldwide.

SpaceX’s Growing Presence in India

This partnership marks SpaceX’s second major agreement in India, following a similar deal with Bharti Airtel.

Airtel has also announced plans to offer Starlink services, particularly targeting businesses, schools, healthcare centers, and local communities.

With these developments, Starlink is set to play a significant role in India’s evolving digital landscape, enhancing internet accessibility across the country.
