ANDHRA PRADESH: PM Modi’s Amaravati Visit: Capital Works Relaunch Set for May 2
Schedule Finalized for Relaunch Event
Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Narendra Modi) is set to relaunch the construction works of Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Amaravati (Amaravati), on May 2, 2025, at 4 PM.
The event will take place at a public meeting venue behind the state Secretariat. Development projects worth ₹1 lakh crore will be inaugurated during this significant program.
Massive Arrangements for 5 Lakh Attendees
The state government anticipates around 5 lakh people from Guntur (Guntur), Krishna (Krishna), Prakasam (Prakasam), and West Godavari (West Godavari) districts to attend the event.
Nine roads have been identified to ensure smooth access for attendees, with measures to prevent traffic disruptions. Extensive preparations are underway to make the event a grand success.
Ministerial Committee and SPG Security Oversight
A cabinet sub-committee comprising ministers Payyavula Keshav (Payyavula Keshav), Kollu Ravindra (Kollu Ravindra), Satyakumar Yadav (Satyakumar Yadav), Nadendla Manohar (Nadendla Manohar), and Ponguru Narayana (Ponguru Narayana) has been appointed to oversee the visit arrangements. The Special Protection Group (SPG) is supervising security measures, with special provisions for VIPs and the public.
Amaravati Development Goals
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu (Nara Chandrababu Naidu) aims to complete the permanent Secretariat, Legislature, High Court, and road infrastructure within three years.
The first phase, costing ₹64,721 crore, will focus on basic infrastructure, with tenders worth ₹37,702 crore already approved for 59 projects. This relaunch marks a critical step in realizing the capital’s vision.
Central Government’s Financial Support
The central government is providing substantial support for Amaravati’s development, guaranteeing ₹26,000 crore in loans from the World Bank (World Bank) and HUDCO (HUDCO).
Proposals for a new railway line, outer ring road, and national highways have been approved, with expectations of a major financial package announcement during the visit.
Revival of a Stalled Project
In 2015, Narendra Modi laid the foundation for Amaravati, but construction stalled after the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) proposed three capitals in 2019.
Following the NDA’s (NDA) return to power in 2024, led by the TDP, Chandrababu Naidu revived his dream project, and this event is expected to breathe new life into the capital’s development.
