New Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first captain in cricket history to guide his team to the finals of all four ICC tournaments.

This achievement places him ahead of former India captain MS Dhoni, who led India to titles in three ICC events—the T20 World Cup (2007), ODI World Cup (2011), and Champions Trophy (2013).

However, since the World Test Championship (WTC) was introduced after Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket, he never had the opportunity to compete in its final.

Virat Kohli was the first Indian captain to lead the team to a WTC final, but Rohit has now accomplished what Dhoni couldn’t.

India’s victory over Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal on Tuesday made them the first team to reach five Champions Trophy finals, a feat unmatched by any other nation.

Since taking over as full-time captain in February 2022, Rohit has led India to every ICC tournament final within a span of three years, making him the only skipper in history to do so.

Under his leadership, India played the 2023 WTC final but suffered a 209-run defeat.

Later that year, India reached the ODI World Cup 2023 final unbeaten, only to lose to Australia by six wickets in Ahmedabad.

However, Rohit and his team bounced back with an unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup 2024, securing the title for the first time since 2007.

With the Champions Trophy being the only tournament left, Rohit led India to yet another final, scripting history in Dubai.

His aggressive and fearless leadership saw India take revenge against Australia, eliminating them from the competition.

Chasing a target of 265 runs, Virat Kohli played a sensational knock of 84 off 98 balls, supported by Shreyas Iyer (45 off 62), helping India register its highest successful run chase against Australia in an ICC event, surpassing the previous best chase of 261 runs in the 2011 World Cup quarter-final.

With this achievement, Rohit Sharma has further cemented his legacy as one of India’s greatest captains.
