TELUGU STATES: Telugu Students Shine as JEE Main 2025 Toppers

Stellar Performance in JEE Main
Telugu students from Hyderabad have achieved remarkable success in the JEE Main 2025, with two securing the national first rank. Banibrat Maaz (Banibrat Maji) and Vangal Ajay Reddy (Vangal Ajay Reddi) scored a perfect 300 out of 300, earning them the top spot.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results on April 18, 2025, at midnight, earlier than the anticipated April 19 release. Two other students from different states may also share the first rank due to identical scores.

New Ranking System
For the first time, the NTA removed the age criterion, assigning the same rank to candidates with equal marks. This change resulted in Banibrat Maaz and Ajay Reddy sharing the top rank.

Ajay Reddy also secured the first rank in the EWS category, showcasing his exceptional performance across categories. The general category cutoff was set at the 93.102 percentile, slightly lower than last year’s 93.236.

Exam Scale and Cutoffs
Over 14.75 lakh students appeared for the JEE Main 2025, conducted in two sessions in January and April. The NTA set category-wise cutoffs: General (93.102), EWS (80.383), OBC (79.431), SC (61.15), and ST (47.90) percentile.

Candidates meeting or exceeding these cutoffs qualify for the JEE Advanced, scheduled for May 18, 2025. A total of 24 students, including four from Telugu states, achieved a perfect 100 percentile.

Telugu State Toppers
From Telangana, Banibrat Maaz, Harsh A. Gupta (Harsh A. Gupta), and Vangal Ajay Reddy secured 100 percentile scores. Andhra Pradesh’s Sai Manojna Guthikonda also earned a perfect score, highlighting the region’s academic excellence.

Ajay Reddy, originally from Tatipadu in Nandyal district, Andhra Pradesh, has been studying in Hyderabad since Class 9. His consistent preparation led to a 99.996 percentile in the first session, culminating in a perfect score in the second.

Preparation and Aspirations
Ajay Reddy, a student at Sri Chaitanya Junior College, attributed his success to studying 10 hours daily and taking regular tests. He aims to crack the JEE Advanced and pursue computer science engineering at IIT Bombay, inspired by his brother at IIT Kharagpur.

Banibrat Maaz dedicated 12-14 hours daily, overcoming challenges in chemistry through persistent effort. Both students credited their teachers and rigorous preparation for their achievements.

Regional Dominance
Telugu states continue to dominate JEE Main, with Telangana contributing 15 of the 56 students who scored 100 percentile in 2024. The 2025 results reinforce Hyderabad’s reputation as a hub for top performers, with well-known coaching institutes playing a pivotal role.

The success of these students underscores the hard work, discipline, and quality education in the region, setting a high benchmark for future aspirants.
